The San Francisco Ritz-Carlton Club (pictured here) offers a variety of meal presentations throughout the day as well as a comfortable place to enjoy a view of the San Francisco skyline.

The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco is a Nob Hill landmark. Since its opening in 1991, the hotel has received numerous awards and accolades from many impressive sources, including Condé Nast Traveler magazine, which named this Ritz San Francisco's best hotel for six consecutive years in a row. Condé Nast Traveler describes the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco as being "like an old private club." While its posh atmosphere--where you can be served tea in a room full of antiques or brunch in the courtyard garden--has been touted, many people are not aware of the hotel's successful efforts to accommodate the babies and toddlers staying here with their parents. If you will be traveling here with children under age five, let the staff know when you make your reservations.

Baby/Child Friendliness:

  • Polo Kit: Like the other Ritz-Carltons discussed in this book, the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco provides a polo kit which includes night lights, a tub spout cover, electrical outlet covers, first aid kit, a stuffed animal, Tylenol, and Band-Aids. Guests traveling with children under five are escorted to their rooms by a specially trained bellman who installs the safety features and explains other precautionary measures to protect youngsters from injury.
  • Very large elevators are convenient for pushing babies in strollers.
  • "Nanny Survival Kit" is also provided for families traveling with youngsters, which includes: a sightseeing map of San Francisco; a calendar listing of "Family Events and Activities" in San Francisco; sunblock; travel snacks; Ritz-Carlton bottled water; aspirin; Band-Aids; and cookies delivered to the guest room upon arrival.
  • Baby-sitting and child care is available.
  • A children's menu is available at the hotel's terrace Restaurant.
  • The gift shop carries some baby items such as powder and lotions, Ritz-Carlton robes, hats, shirts, games and toys.
  • The hotel is within walking distance or a short drive to many activities appealing to youngsters: Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz Island, Cable Car rides, the Exploratorium, Golden Gate Park, and the Steinhart Aquarium.
  • Cribs are available upon request.
  • * In-room refrigerators are provided for storing baby perishables.
  • In room radios are convenient for soothing baby with soft music.
  • Air-conditioning in room.
  • Television and VCRs in the room entertain young children. A wide selection of family-oriented videos are available from the concierge.
  • Twenty-four-hour room service available.
  • Children's activities and special events are provided seasonally for the youngsters, including a complimentary scavenger hunt for children in July, a petting zoo, and an egg hunt at Easter.
  • The business lounge is children-oriented.
  • The staff works relentlessly to accommodate the various needs of the young guests.
  • Suites, although costly, are very spacious to accommodate baby and toddler gear. Executive suites were $675.00 a night, and Executive Club Suites (in which we stayed and found very comfortable) were $700.00 nightly at the time of my visit.
  • One-third of the guests have access to the Club, which has been voted the best Club Lounge.
  • The staff is available to pack and repack for you and your children for a fee. This service benefits parents who can use the additional time to spend relaxing at the pool or using the fitness club which is complimentary to all hotel guests. The bar is also constantly available and offers espresso to go.

  • Excellent service to accommodate all your needs.
  • Creamy, scented soaps found within the suites.
  • Special packages are available such as the "Bed of Roses" to pamper Mom on Mother's Day. This package includes deluxe accommodations, a rose-petal turn-down, a one-hour massage, and unlimited access to the fitness center.
