The Inn is steps away from the coveted Pacific Ocean

If you are looking for a classy getaway on the central coast, look no further than the pristine Santa Barbara Inn, an upscale boutique resort which completed its renovation in 2016. My family and I visited the Inn for a few summer nights and had a top-notch experience. We stayed in two rooms with uniquely different views; one displayed the majestic mountains and the other showcased the palm tree-lined Pacific Ocean.

This beautiful, mission-styled inn is located between the Santa Barbara coast and the grand Santa Ynez mountain range, warranting breath-taking views from every room, and every direction one may face. The outstanding views are not the only standout of the 70 luxurious rooms; each room has a large, high-definition TV, free Wi-Fi, a closet and safe, a wonderful bathroom (some with Jacuzzi bathtubs), comfortable beds, and a private balcony. The hallways are also a source of entertainment, lined with some incredibly interesting artwork and black-and-white photographs of hidden gems such as the old mission and the courthouse throughout Santa Barbara County. I found myself looking up several of the locations represented in the photographs to learn more.

The Inn captures the classical Mission-styled ambiance of Santa Barbara

Along with these accommodations, a light, complimentary breakfast is accessible to vacationers. This breakfast, which was a trip-favorite among my teens, included oatmeal, bagels, toast, pastries, cereal, fruit, and juices, making this a vegetarian/vegan-friendly brunch. As more and more travel destinations are including vegetarian options in keeping with our times, this brunch style is a welcomed and well-appreciated feature! Additional, delicious meals for breakfast lunch, and dinner are also available at the Innís restaurant, the Convivo, and food can be delivered to any room for your convenience. If tranquility is a trait you appreciate, then this is one more reason to consider the Santa Barbara Inn. During our stay, it became apparent that the Inn attracts those looking for a relaxing and serene getaway. This is not a college party resort by any means, but one that is very suitable for traveling families. You can enjoy your stay beside the pool and Jacuzzi, which was appropriate for kids and adults. To go with the lovely pool is the also complimentary gym. This air-conditioned fitness center has treadmills and other exercise equipment, as well as an ocean view. Other amenities of the Inn include a comfortable, furnished lobby, convenient valet parking, and most of all, a very friendly staff!

The most memorable aspect of the resort is its location in the heart of so many remarkable, family-friendly attractions. Right outside the Inn is a paved walkway for biking, walking, running, and everything in between. An easy walk down the path leads to a popular skate park, as well as the famous Stearns Wharf, a wooden pier dating back to the 1800s. Here, explore shops, restaurants, and the wonder of being surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. Connected right off of the Wharf is State Street, the main drag of the city, packed with an eclectic array of restaurants and shops, and notably the MOXI Childrenís Museum, brand new in Santa Barbara. On State Street and its intersecting side streets, you will find a wonderfully diverse range of venues from tattoo lounges to high-end art galleries. Although Starbucks stores lace these streets, this downtown area defies categorization of any kind and remains stubbornly diverse, thus appealing to almost everyone.

Also in walking distance, is the renowned Santa Barbara Zoo. For a full day of family-friendly excitement, feeding giraffes and riding on trains, we highly recommend checking out this quaint zoo. After we finished with these local attractions, we branched out to other entertainment, all within a 30-minute car drive from the Inn. These include the cityís renowned community college, Santa Barbara City College, and also Westmont, UCSB, the beautiful Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens, the historic Mission and the downtown of posh Montecito. As a former Santa Barbara college native, I must also tip you off to the lesser-known, local hangout spot of artsy Summerland, ten minutes south of Montecito. See my list of family-friendly Santa Barbara activities. The Santa Barbara Inn positions you well to travel in any or all of these destinations, depending on your mood and inclinations. Whatever you do in this magical city, it is reassuring to know that at the end of the day, you will return to the charm and warmth of the Santa Barbara Inn.

All in all, our stay at the delightful Santa Barbara Inn was one to remember, and we definitely recommend it. Whether you visit for a summer paradise or a winter wonderland, we know you will find what youíre looking for at this lovely Inn.
